Now for the story of her arrival. Doctor Astle had set the date for me to be induced knowing that my labors go so quickly and I had group be strep. He wanted to make sure I got the antibiotics needed before she came. The night of I had been woken up a few times as I was feeling contractions. Nothing bad just enough to wake me up and only every once in a while nothing consistent. We got the call at 5 a.m. to be there by 6:15. Rafael was at the gym so I got up and showered and got ready and he came home to get me. We got everything in the car and headed to the hospital. By the time I was all hooked up on the I.V. to get my antibiotics needed it was around 6:55. They started pitocin at that point but started it off very slow. They didn't want her to make her arrival before I was able to get the second dose of antibiotics at 10:55. Also at that point she checked me and I was only 4 centimeters dilated. The contractions weren't bad at all they were anywhere from 3 to 7 minutes apart for the first couple hours and didn't hurt. I knew I was having them but not much pain. I went in knowing that I didn't want to have an epidural. Around 9:30 I started being able to feel them more. They still weren't bad and still around 5 minutes apart. As it got closer to 10 they were getting pretty strong still bearable though. At 10:13 I had just had a contraction and felt like I needed to go to the bathroom so I had Rafael call the nurse in to come help unplug all the cords. After I went to the bathroom I was going to have her check me to see how far along I was and decide if I wanted to get an epidural or not. That last contraction was the only one I thought might push me over the edge. She came in helped me get to the bathroom and left the room. I sat down and could not get back up. I had to push right then. I yelled to Rafael to grab the nurse because I had to push. He ran out to the hall and yelled and in came the nurse. I was still sitting there. I reached down and sure enough I could feel her coming. The nurse checked to be sure and yelled for help. She had me stand up and was trying to get me back to the bed but that just wasn't going to happen. By the then little Channing's head had made it's appearance. She was coming then whether we were ready or not. At this time there were at least 10 nurses in our room and the next contraction she was here. The nurse had her head but as she came out she slipped out of the nurses hands and right into the toilet bum first. Luckily the Dr. had ran in at that moment because as she fell the cord broke. Dr. Astle fished her out of the toilet and put a clip on the cord right away so she had very little blood loss. They hurried to access her and make sure all was good and they rushed me back to the bed to make sure I was ok. We were both great. A little shook up but healthy as could be. Both Doctor Astle and the nurse said they had never experienced a birth like it before. It was a little scary there for a few minutes but now we have this wonderful story to tell.
